Quick summary

A blind off the track is usually down to a knocked or bent guide, broken end clips or stops, or an out-of-level fit. Don’t force it: every pass with a slat outside the track bends more parts and can end up dropping the whole blind.

Why a blind comes off the track

Common causes are a knocked, dented or wall-loosened side guide, broken stops or clips that keep the slats inside the rail, worn end slats, or a box and brackets out of level that pull the blind to one side. A gust of wind with the window open can also push it out.

Blind off the track: what to do

What you can check

Look at which side comes out, whether the guide is dented or detached, whether the last slat has snapped clips, and whether the blind rises straight or crooked. Also check whether a single slat is out or the whole side has come away: it makes a difference for the repair.

What you should not do

Do not keep raising or lowering the blind with a slat out of the track: each move bends more slats and can break the axle or drop the whole assembly. Do not push it back by force or poke screwdrivers into the guide. Leave it still and request an inspection.

When to call

Call if the blind is tilted, if one or more slats stick out of the track, if it jams when rising or if you can’t close it properly. The sooner it is checked, the fewer slats need replacing.

Frequently asked questions

Why has my blind come off the track?

Most often a knocked or bent guide, broken end clips or an out-of-level fit. A gust of wind with an already loose slat can push it out too.

Can I put it back myself?

Sometimes a single loose slat goes back, but if it is bent or keeps coming out there is an underlying cause (guide or clips) worth checking so it does not recur.

Is it urgent?

If the blind won’t close and leaves the home or shop unprotected, yes. Acting fast also avoids bending more slats.

How much does it cost to fix?

It depends on whether refitting and adjusting the guide is enough or slats and clips need replacing. We give a free no-obligation quote before starting.
