Why the blind won’t go up or down
On strap blinds the fault is usually in the winder: the strap has slipped off the pulley or fully unwound, or the inner spring has lost tension. The axle may also have come out of its brackets, or a group of slats may be jammed inside the box. On motorised blinds it is normally a worn capacitor, a misaligned limit switch or a motor with no power.
What you can check without opening the box
Notice whether the motor sounds but the blind does not move (a capacitor or jam symptom), whether pulling the strap spins it with no grip, whether one side drops lower (axle or bent slat), or whether the switch and remote have power. These clues help the technician arrive with the right part.
What you should not do
Do not yank the strap hard or wind it by force: you can break the pulley or the spring. Do not hold the motor button down if it does not respond, as you can burn the capacitor or the winding. And do not open the box without securing the slats, which can drop suddenly.
When to call
Call if the blind is fully blocked, if the motor hums but does not move, if the strap spins with no grip, or if the home or shop is left unsecured. A blind stuck at night is an emergency.
